I’m writing live from Mark Boulton’s presentation on the redesign of Drupal.org. I don’t know about anybody else, but the chance to listen to a world-class designer has got my full attention. Anything interesting I learn will be posted here, LIVE (assuming I can maintain my internet connection!).
- They are redesigning the user experience for Drupal 7, this is gonna be huge. They (Leisa and Mark) are hoping to ditch Expression Engine and Wordpress in favor of Drupal 7. If they don’t, they failed… and so did we!
- Very exciting to hear about Drupal 7… too bad its realistically two years away.
- Interesting - Usabilty != User Experience! For instance, the iphone, we forgive the keyboard (usability) because its so freaking cool (user experience).
- Drupal.org is usable… but the experience is crap. For a regular person, its terrifying
- Wow, they are showing us the usability study, where they track a person’s eyes, and this guy (who is web savvy) CANNOT find the create content button! Christ….

- “Getting Started” instead of “Download Now”
- They use little hand-written notes, I like.
- On the drupal header, the search is about “building trust” - that’s why we show the different types of search, as well as popular searches
