The Front Porch Bed & Breakfast needed a simple website that they could keep up-to-date themselves, without having to call someone and wait for help.  Cue the music: Unstandardized Design to the rescue!

Using a custom design, Unstandardized Design crafted a custom theme for Wordpress, the popular open-source blogging software.  Now the caretakers of The Front Porch can update pictures, text, and links on their site thanks to the easy-to-understand training provided at videos.unstandardized.com.

Farm Fresh

Farm Fresh

Company: The Holly Factory
Work: XHTML/CSS, Drupal-based
Went Live: November, 2008
Link: http://www.thehollyfactory.com

The Holly Factory has always wanted one thing, and one thing only, out of a website - a simple, yet attractive way to showcase their current inventory. After trying and missing with other companies, they finally found Unstandardized Design.

We used Drupal, the powerful open-source Content Management System (CMS) as the foundation for handling all of the sites information. With a modified design from the Theme Forest, we created a fully functional theme for Drupal, complete with dynamic flyout menus.

Today the site is in constant motion, with pages and products being updated all of the time. That's just what every Drupal-based website dreams about at night.

Going Underground

Going Underground

Company: Undergrounded
Work: Theme Customization, Wordpress-based
Went Live: October, 2008

Keely needed a website where her trips deep into the earth's dark and muddy pits (she calls it caving) could be posted and shared with friends and fellow cavers. Luckily, Keely works with (and is married to) a web developer.

In minutes, a new Wordpress site was online. We selected a suitably dark, yet beautiful theme freely available on the internet. It required some minor tweaks, but nothing a seasoned PHP programmer couldn't handle. The coolest feature of the site? If you visit it during the day, it looks different than at night, and at sunset/sunrise its different as well!

Better Business Networking

Better Business Networking

Company: BNI Silver Spring
Work: Community Site, Video Training, Drupal-based
Went Live: September, 2008
Link: http://www.bnisilverspring.com

As proud members of BNI (Business Networking International), we at Unstandardized Design couldn't help ourselves when it came to revamping the old website for the group. First, there were two problems to solve - the old site was hard to maintain, when a new member joined the group, their information had to be added manually by editing HTML files. Ultimately, mistakes were made, and the site grew out-of-date.

Second, there was no central place for members to go to quickly find out what was happening each week. Using Drupal, we created a website that solved both problems at once. Now, adding a new member to the various portions of the website is as simple as issuing them a new user account.

The new member can then log into the site, and with help from custom-made training videos, they can easily update their public-facing information. On top of that, an event calendar was added to the site. Members can contribute their own events to the listing, or quickly check to see what is happening by viewing the Upcoming Events block on any page.

Power To The Artists!

Power To The Artists!

Company: Jeweler's Warehouse
Work: Design, XHTML/CSS, E-commerce, Drupal-based
Went Live: July, 2008
Link: http://www.jewelerswarehouseusa.com

It all started with a simple enough idea - let's make it easy for local artists to set up a shop online.

We set out to do just that, with a custom design and a back-end powered by Drupal, the popular open-source Content Management System (CMS). Each artist gets their own url (for instance, jamesburick.jewelerswarehouseusa.com) featuring all of their hand-crafted works of art, as well as a jquery-based slide show displaying their featured pieces. Items are sold directly on the site, utilizing the uber-cool Ubercart for Drupal.

Reaching an audience is critical to the success of any artist, and with the Jewelers Warehouse, we've made it easier than ever for the artists to reach the people.

Setting The Tone

Setting The Tone

Company: Inspired Settings
Work: Design, XHTML/CSS, Wordpress-based
Went Live: July, 2008
Link: http://www.inspiredsettings.com

It was a simple enough request, Dr. Morris of Inspired Settings simply wanted to fix a punctuation error on her website. She called and emailed her old web company a dozen times, and the change was never made. She related this story to us during our first meeting, and the question that popped up was also fairly simple - "Well, why does it have to be so hard to change a simple punctuation mistake?"

The answer, of course, is that it doesn't. Using Wordpress, the popular (and simple-to-use) open-source blogging software, Unstandardized Design created a fully user-customizable website for Inspired Settings. The design, provided by our good friends at Skip Vision, evokes peace and calm, wrapped in a professional presentation.

Now when Dr. Morris finds a minor typo at 2am, she doesn't reach for her phone and wait until the morning, she reaches for her mouse and fixes it herself in a few seconds.

This project even comes complete with a short training video, explaining the registration process to Alumni that are new to the site.
